PERSEVERING IN THE FAITH

Have you ever seen someone pull a chair out from underneath someone else? What a breach of trust! It can be embarrassing and sometimes shameful. I know I have experienced myself personally, and while it was all fun and games at the moment, I had a very hard time trusting chairs…and well, people…for a bit after that!

In Romans 5:3-5, we’re challenged to believe that when God promises he works all things for the good of those who love him (Romans 8:28), that He really will do just that! The scripture says, “Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings because we know that suffering produces perseverance; 4 perseverance, character; and character, hope. 5 And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.”

We know that in everything we experience in this life, God will use our sufferings to cause us to become the people he has created us to be—persevering, spirit-filled, hopeful Christ-followers! I love verse 5 because it reminds us that in this hope, we are not put to shame. God will never ask you to trust him and then pull out the proverbial chair from beneath you.

When we come to God with our petitions and our pains, He reminds us of His promises. God will finish the work He’s doing in you to completion (Philippians 1:6) and He will use it for the good of you and those around you. This being said, we never have to worry if God really is good or really is working — trust him with your prayers, and petitions and bring your requests to God!

PASTORAL PRAYER REQUESTS

  1. PRAY FOR ALL those who were saved and baptized during Easter at our church! We want to make sure they follow Jesus all thee days of their lives. Pray that as we invite them to take the next steps like our upcoming Become Class starting on 4/21, many people would register and grow in their faith.
  2. PRAY FOR OUR MISSIONS! As we read through Romans, we know that one of the goals of Paul was to use Rome as a staging ground for the gospel to spread to Spain. God has made Light & Life into an incredible staging ground for the gospel to go forth to Indonesia, Philippines, Guatemala, El Salvador, Ethiopia, and many more places! Take a moment to pray for one of those locations.
