As I was reading Colossians on a plane ride back to California this week, I was reminded of the deep connection between thankgiving and prayer. Paul writes in Colossians 4:2,
Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful.
One way that we can live prayerful lives is by simply being
thankful. These kinds of prayers can be short and said throughout the day as you become conscious of God's many gifts. Thank you, Lord for this laptop which allows me to write these emails! How often do you find yourself thanking God throughout your day? For the sun, for a night's sleep, for waking you up, for you children, for the food in your home, for the breath in your lungs?
Lacking gratitude can begin to grow a root of bitterness in our hearts to the point where they become hardened to God and to people. Paul tells us to be watchful and prayerful, maybeeeee perhaps maybbeeee because he knows that prayer helps us be watchful of the root of sin in our lives. Friends, let's cut out every root of bitterness and sin in our lives by praying in all ocassions and giving thanks to God! There's nothing more sad than a bitter, cold, loveless, thankless Christian. Rather, let us abound in gratitude!
"By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips, giving thanks to his name". Heb. 13:15

- Pray for our Christmas Offering as we approach the close of our financial year. Every year, we pray that God would move in the hearts of our people to give a 'thank you' offering for the birth of Jesus, that like the Magi, we would bear gifts as the gospel goes forth through our church!
- Pray for the Advent Season! Starting December 1st you can expect Christmas-themed services, a daily podcast in the app, and outreach events to reach the community. - Pray for our missions in Central America as Pastor Juan Carlos visits our five churches in Guatemala and El Salvador. Pray that the seeds of new churches would continue to grow!
