NOT THE KIND OF FIRE WE PRAYED FOR

Fire is something that as Christians we often pray for, we even sing about it in various songs!

 

...fire, fall down, on us, we pray...

...I want to be tried by fire, purified...

 

And the songs go on and on. But when we pray for God's fire we are not praying for a literal one but the fire of the Holy Spirit to fall on us like it did on the day of Pentecost and for that fire to spread throughout the world. 

 

In October, we planted Pastor Christopher in the city of Altadena where as of last Sunday they were gathering 70-80 believers in a rented church near Eaton Canyon. Having recently driven up there for their church launch, I remember it being down the street from Eaton Canyon. This morning, fearing the worst, I texted my dear friend pastor Christopher and asked, "Church in danger of Eaton fire???" To which he replied, "It's gone."

 

How could this be? A newly planted church touching the lives of many with a unique expression, bringing asians, latinos, white, and black people together in a valley where most churches are divided among racial lines and it goes up in flames three months in? 

 

But how many of you know that God loves to turn what we think is a disaster into a display of his power, wisdom, and glory? And that is exactly what we invite you to pray.

 

"God, show your glory through this tragedy." 

"Lord, turn a tragedy into a testimony!"

"Father, let your church shine brighter than any fire ever could!"

"Jesus, use this to properl the gospel forward!"

"Holy Spirit, comfort and compel your people to forge ahead!"

 

Let this be our prayer for the church, even as we intercede for the winds and fires to wane in Jesus' name!

PASTORAL PRAYER REQUESTS

  1. 21 Day Fast | Pray that our church would continue to press deeper into their time of consecration to the Lord as we fast for the right purposes! This Sunday pastor Sean will push us forth as we consider the right posture of fasting. 
  2. Lottie Mayfield | Having rested in the Lord during the Christmas break, sister Lottie will be laid to rest on January 29th at 11:30am, with a viewing on the 28th from 12-4pm at Inglewood Cemetery (3801 West Manchester Blvd., Inglewood, CA). 
  3. Pastor Larry's newest book | The River Church: Unleashing a Culture of Multiplication in Your Church will be published by Exponential later this year. Would you pray for this 50,000 word book as it will be printed and released to tens of thousands of pastors world wide? The book details the story of our church and how people can see their churches become River Churches like ours!

 ALL CHURCH PRAYER REQUEST

  1. Nicky Kelly | Arlene (sister-in-law) - Lives in Bullhead City and her husband died Thursday suddenly. She is an invalid in a wheelchair and will not accept 24-hour in-home care or move to an assisted living place, she is very adversarial and difficult. Please pray for us as we are running out of options.

  2. Darryl Poston | My prayer is for my wife who has a shoulder and neck problem with extreme pain. She is having an MRI tomorrow. Her blood pressure has been 183 due to the pain. Found out Rolet has a left tears rotator cuff.

  3. Celeste Gardiner | Please pray for my family's various issues. Please pray for the many at my church (Faith Bible Church, DeSoto, TX) who are facing serious illnesses.

  4. Christina Jaramillo | I need a prayer request for Kathy, my husband's mother. She took a fall, had a concussion. Now her motor functionality has gotten very slim, fully in our care. Her memory is near Gone. Please pray for her, for strength for us all during this change, for peace. I need prayers of deliverance from the spirit of infirmity over my head, over my husband's head, over our household, over our lives. We need deliverance from the spirit of infirmity with the authority of Jesus Christ Almighty.

  5. Maria Vasquez | The LORD said it's not good for man to be alone. Please pray God brings someone special into my son's life. His being so lonely and being bipolar makes him more depressed, angry, and "dark". I believe if God brings someone special into his life it would give him the incentive, encouragement and will deal better with bipolar.

  6. Crystal Brown | Prayer for financial increase and wisdom. Healing for my daughter, was diagnosed with MS.

  7. Steven Watson | I ask for prayer that this year I can bring an astonishing amount of people to Jesus if it's GOD's will. I also ask for prayer that my car can get fixed and not be too expensive if it's in GOD's will.

  8. Cordelia Burson | I got hurt on work my leg is bad I need prayers I came to service on Christmas but I'm still in a lot of pain continue to pray for me.

  9. Ethel Sloan | Please pray for Daniel's safety as he starts working in the jails. Pray as my husband goes back on patrol for 9 months. After 9 months, he's retiring. Praying for God's direction after retirement. Pray for Jon Jr. as he finds a new career or/ advancement at work. Pray for physical health. I've been experiencing joint and muscle pains on my knees and legs.

  10. Patty Turbyfill | For 2025, I am Praying for the Salvation of my family members, rebuking satan from their Lives!! Also, Good Health for my mom & for our family! Pray for my cousin who had a heart attack. Her name is Denise, and she is having an Angiogram January 23rd at 9:00 AM! Please pray that everything goes well! Also, one of my Roommates broke her humerus bone, had surgery and is now on the healing mends! It's a long recovery, so we pray she gets back to normal with a lot of hard work!

  11. Tammy Marler | Please pray for my heart. I had an irregular E.K.G. that came back.

  12. Marissa Aburto | My almost two-month baby girl just passed away 12/19. Right now, our Faith in God is not strong at all Please pray for my husband Jorge, my 10-year-old daughter, Nevaeh and myself, Marissa. Our baby's name was Zaryah.

  13. Joy Garcia | My husband just had a cat scan and biopsy- we are waiting for the pathology report...may it be benign, easy to remove and may he recuperate fully to enjoy his retirement in three months.

  14. Al Bacani | Please pray that God draws our marriage closer to Him.

  15. Reginald Van Appelen | Pray for Tracy and his transition to another housing opportunity. Repaired relationships between my two sons (Josiah & Jeremiah).

  16. Adriana Castillo | Please pray for my brother (he is using drugs again). Please pray for my sister (alcoholic). Please pray for my mother (behavioral issues) and please pray for me (I need strength).

  17. Bud Antisdel | Prayers for people in the New Orleans tragedy. Also, prayers for upcoming winter storm.

  23. Pablo Diaz | Just last night I dropped on my knees and cried to Jesus! I gave him all my pains, all my worries, all my anxieties, all my fears, all my insecurities. I prayed for guidance, and I know I can't walk alone. This year and the rest of the years in my life to come I want my life to be walking alongside Jesus. I just ask you guys to pray so I can find the strength and the wisdom and the faith to keep going and to never look back.

  32. Kim Glick | Friend Julie diagnosed with melanoma. Surgery this Thursday, January 9th. Pray for healing and salvation.

  1. Dylan Carter | I was accepted into one of the best universities for nursing! Starting school again is a huge chapter in my life and I'm excited to have the Lord with me throughout every step!

  3. Sara Aguilar | Praise God because I found an all-girls Bible study group and they welcomed me whole heartedly with open arms. Praise God because I woke up today and made it safe to work in this fog. Praise the King of Kings because he blessed me to see the new year. God is good all the time and all the time God is good.

  9. Patty Turbyfill | I'm Praising Our Lord Jesus Christ for My Mom still being with Me and for Saving her Life when she took medication, and it took her Kidneys out. She spent 4 Months at LB Memorial Hospital!! Also, thank you so much for your prayers!
