Where does the idea of praying for 'traveling mercies' come from? Well, there are many places in the Bible that point to these kinds of prayers, but my favorite one comes from Psalm 121:7-8, and honestly, I am about to sit down to commit it to memory because this is a prayer we can and should all be praying over our friends and family.
“The Lord will keep you from all harm—he will watch over your life; the Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore.”
What a powerful prayer! Imagine blessings your spouse on the way out the door with this?
Imagine praying this over your children every time you drop them off at school? It gives language to one of our greatest anxieties, our loved one's safety. It also reminds us that God is watching over our lives and every move we make.
Right now, our Philippines mission team is making their way back to California. Pastors Sean and Isai, Pastors John Wiegelt, and Mike Chong-Perkins are making their way back. They have been incredibly busy with a long agenda of planting new churches, blessing new buildings, installing pastors, preaching and training, and so much more! Would you take a moment to begin incorporating this Psalm 121 prayer by praying it over them?
"Lord, keep our Philippines missions team from all harm---watch over their lives; Lord, watch over their coming and their going, every flight and connection, now and forevermore. Amen."
