As we continue to serve our community in a week of rising tensions in light of the ICE arrests in Southern California, we understand that in a diverse church like ours, opinions on the matter are on extreme spectrums. And as your pastors, we understand that our responsibility is to shepherd the flock toward Christlikeness and praying from our Biblical convictions, nit just our political opinions.
The image above shares the convictions that your Elders (Pastors Sean, Joel, Sarah, Larry, and Deb), seek to live and lead from. As you respond and think through the events of this week how much does what the Bible have to see on these matter shape our prayers?
What would it look like to pray while recognizing the imago dei (image of God) in all persons, undocumented immigrant and ICE agent? To know that they are both made in the image of God and that the power has the power to reconcile these opposing groups?
What would it look like to pray and seek the flourishing of our cities, believing that God has placed us here as exiles to pursue the flourishing of our nation, and especially, our cities?
What would our prayers look like to read the dozens of Scriptures that share God's heart for the immigrant, and so share in that same heart?
Would you take some time when you see this to start with prayer? Our church has always been committed to the power of PRAYER as more than our thoughts or well wishes, and this is the perfect opportunity for us to intercede for the following...
*for the immigrant (regardless of their status)
*for civil servants
*for the City of Long Beach
*for Los Angeles County
*for government officials
*against violence and hatred
*for the fruit of the Spirit to be embodied through believers: peace, grace, mercy, justice, love, and compassion.
